Pride Maxima Battery
The "Strongman" of Mobility Scooters. Powered by MobileBattery.
The Pride Maxima (Models SC900 & SC940) is widely recognized as the workhorse of the Pride Mobility lineup. Engineered with a reinforced frame, an ultra-heavy-duty drivetrain, and a massive 500 lb weight capacity, it is built to carry riders that other scooters simply cannot.
But moving 500 lbs takes serious power. The Maxima puts immense strain on its batteries, especially during startup and hill climbing. If your Maxima feels sluggish, cuts out when you try to accelerate, or if the battery gauge drops instantly under load, your batteries are no longer providing the "High-Torque" current this heavy machine demands.
At MobileBattery, we specialize in the specific energy needs of bariatric scooters. We bring the correct, high-output batteries directly to your home, ensuring your Maxima continues to deliver the safety and stability you rely on.
The Maxima "Torque" Requirement
The Pride Maxima uses the industry-standard Group 22NF battery size, but not all 22NF batteries are created equal.
The "General Purpose" Mistake: Many repair shops install standard "General Purpose" 22NF batteries (often used for floor scrubbers or alarms).
The Failure: These batteries are not designed for the high-amp surge of the Maxima’s motor. Under a heavy load (like a steep driveway), they suffer from Voltage Collapse, causing the scooter to stop suddenly to protect the electronics.
The MobileBattery Standard: We only install Traction-Grade High-Output batteries in the Pride Maxima.
Why: Our batteries feature thicker lead plates designed specifically to sustain high voltage under heavy weight loads. This ensures smooth acceleration and consistent power, even at the scooter's maximum weight capacity.
Select Your Performance Tier
We offer two professional-grade options for the Pride Maxima, allowing you to match the battery to your usage.
Option A: The Factory Standard (AGM)
"The OEM Restore." This is the direct replacement for the batteries that came with your Maxima when it was new. It restores the original reliability and range.
Best For: Indoor use, shopping malls, and flat neighborhood sidewalks.
Tech: 55Ah Sealed AGM (Maintenance Free).
Option B: The Heavy-Duty Upgrade (Discover® EV Dry Cell)
"The Bariatric Choice." Highly Recommended for Riders over 300 lbs. If you use the Maxima near its weight limit or drive outdoors on hills, you need a battery that fights back. Discover® Dry Cell technology is engineered for "Deep Cycle" durability.
Sustained Torque: Maintains power delivery longer without fading, ensuring you don't get stranded on an incline.
Vibration Resistance: The Maxima has a stiff suspension; Dry Cell batteries are reinforced to withstand the bumps and shakes of daily driving.
Note: Currently, there is no "Drop-In" Lithium battery available in the Group 22NF size that is certified for the Maxima's high-current controller.
Why Maxima Owners Trust MobileBattery
The Pride Maxima is a substantial piece of equipment, weighing over 250 lbs even without batteries.
The Transport Challenge: The Maxima is wide and heavy. It does not disassemble easily into lightweight pieces like a travel scooter. Getting a Maxima to a repair shop usually requires a specialized wheelchair van or a trailer, costing you significant time and money.
The Mobile Convenience:
We Come to You: We service the scooter right in your living room, garage, or driveway.
Zero Lifting: You never have to lift a finger. Our technicians handle the heavy batteries and the removal of the Maxima’s reinforced seat.
Safety Check: While we are there, we inspect the anti-tip wheels and motor brushes—critical safety components for a heavy-duty scooter.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the correct battery size for the Pride Maxima?
The Pride Maxima (3 & 4 Wheel) comes standard with two (2) Group 22NF batteries.
Tech Note: Some older legacy manuals list "Group 24" as an option, but this requires a specific expanded battery cover that is rarely found on Canadian models. We stock the High-Output 22NF which fits perfectly under your standard shroud.
How far can a Pride Maxima go on new batteries?
With a fresh set of our High-Output 55Ah batteries, the Maxima is rated for up to 26 km (16 miles) per charge.
Honest Expert Note: Range on the Maxima is highly dependent on rider weight. A 200lb rider will get significantly more range than a 450lb rider.
My battery gauge shows full, but the scooter stops on hills. Why?
This is the classic sign of "Surface Charge." The batteries are old and can hold voltage (showing "Full"), but they have no amperage capacity (the actual muscle). As soon as the motor asks for power to climb a hill, the battery collapses. Replacement is the only cure.
