How to Replace Your Battery in a 2017 Toyota Corolla
In the 2017 Toyota Corolla, the battery is elegantly positioned within the engine bay on the driver’s side, near the front. It’s conveniently located next to the fender, making it easily accessible once the hood is opened. Follow these steps to replace the battery:
1. Prepare for the Replacement
Open the hood and locate the battery on the driver’s side of the engine bay, near the front.
2. Disconnect the Battery Cables
Disconnect the negative cable: Use a 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on the negative (black) terminal. Remove the cable and set it aside.
Disconnect the positive cable: Use the same 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on the positive (red) terminal. Remove the cable and set it aside.
3. Remove the Battery Hold-Down Clamp
Use the 10mm socket to remove the bolt securing the hold-down clamp at the base of the battery. This will free the battery for removal
4. Remove the Old Battery
Carefully lift the old battery out of its compartment. Batteries are heavy, so be sure to use proper lifting techniques to avoid injury.
5. Clean the Terminal Posts
Use a wire brush and battery cleaner chemicals to clean the battery terminal posts. This helps remove any corrosion and ensures a secure connection for the new battery.
6. Install the New Battery
Place the new battery into the compartment, ensuring the terminals are positioned correctly (positive terminal on the left, negative on the right).Secure the battery with the hold-down clamp using the 10mm socket.
7. Reconnect the Battery Cables
Reconnect the positive cable: Attach the positive (red) cable to the positive terminal and tighten the bolt with the 10mm socket.
Reconnect the negative cable: Attach the negative (black) cable to the negative terminal and tighten the bolt securely.
8. Test the Alternator
Start your vehicle and use a multimeter to check the alternator’s output. A properly functioning alternator should produce between 13.7 and 14.7 volts, which indicates the alternator is charging the battery correctly.
