Recommended Battery

For optimal performance, you’ll want to use the right battery size. Here’s the recommended battery group size for your vehicle:

  • Group 35

How to Replace Your 2006 Mazda 3 Battery

1. Locate the Battery: The battery is located under the hood on the driver’s side. Make sure your car is off and parked on a flat surface before you begin.

2. Remove the Battery Top Case: Start by removing the plastic top case that covers the battery.

3. Unlatch the Front Side Battery Case: Next, unlatch the front side of the battery case, to get more space to remove the battery

4. Disconnect the Negative Cable: Use your 10mm socket and ratchet to loosen the bolt on the negative cable. Pull the cable off the terminal and tuck it aside to prevent accidental contact.

5. Disconnect the Positive Cable: Do the same for the positive cable, loosening the 10mm bolt and moving the cable safely away from the terminal.

6. Remove the Battery Hold Down Clamp: The battery is held in place by a hold down bracket. Use the 10mm socket to remove the bolt on the hold down bracket.

7. Remove the Battery: Carefully lift the battery out of the car. Keep in mind that car batteries are heavy, so take your time to avoid straining yourself.

8. Install the New Battery: Place the new Group 35 battery in the same spot where the old one was located.

9. Reinstall the Hold Down Bracket: Secure the battery by reinstalling the hold down and tightening the bolt with your 10mm socket.

10. Reconnect the Positive Cable: Reattach the positive cable to the battery and tighten it using the 10mm socket.

11. Reconnect the Negative Cable: Now, reconnect the negative cable and tighten it securely.

12. Replace the Battery Top Case: Place the top case back on and latch the front side battery case.

13. Test the Alternator: Once everything is secure, it's important to test your alternator. A healthy alternator should produce between 13.5 and 14.5 volts, although this can vary depending on the manufacturer.
