How to Replace Your Battery in a 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Replacing the battery in your 2017 Jeep Cherokee is simpler than you might think. The battery is conveniently located under the hood on the driver’s side. Follow these steps carefully:

1. Disconnect the Battery

  • Locate the battery: Open the hood and locate the battery on the driver’s side.

  • Disconnect the negative cable: Use a 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on the negative (black) cable. Remove the cable and set it aside.

  • Disconnect the positive cable: Use the same 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on the positive (red) cable. Remove it and set it aside.

2. Remove the Battery Hold-Down Clamp

  • Locate the hold-down clamp securing the battery at its base.

  • Use the 10mm socket to remove the bolt holding the clamp in place.

3. Remove the Old Battery

  • Carefully lift the old battery out of the compartment. Batteries can be heavy, so take your time and ensure you have a firm grip.

4. Install the New Battery

  • Place the new battery: Align the new battery in the compartment, ensuring the terminals are in the correct position.

  • Reinstall the hold-down clamp: Secure the battery by reattaching the clamp with the 10mm bolt.

5. Reconnect the Battery

  • Reconnect the positive cable: Attach the positive (red) cable to the terminal and tighten it with the 10mm socket.

  • Reconnect the negative cable: Attach the negative (black) cable to the terminal and tighten it securely.

6. Test the Alternator

  • After installation, start your vehicle and test the alternator. A properly functioning alternator should produce a voltage between 13.5 and 14.5 volts, though this may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.
